Underdogs Basketball wrapped up its first group and one-on-one training sessions at the end of May. The players received high-level training designed to develop their skills in a small, focused environment, allowing for personalized attention from the coaches. The training covered individual skills such as dribbling, shooting, rebounding, and passing, as well as finer points of the game like setting screens, defending pick-and-rolls, and positioning on defense.
“We enjoyed having our training sessions with each of these players,” said Tom Marx, Director of Basketball Operations. “It can be hard for young players to come out weekly after school and give a full effort, but each of our athletes did so and was dedicated to each session. You can see the growth of each player, and players, parents, and coaches noticed continuous improvement every week.”
With the training sessions concluded Underdogs Basketball is now looking forward to hosting tryouts for the Fall 2024 season on August 24 and 25 at Foothill Gym in Walnut Creek. “As a new club, our goal is to set up teams and offer opportunities to young athletes looking to improve their skills and compete against other clubs. We are very excited for another opportunity to provide a high-level experience for the athletes and their families. We are also delighted to be able to open up our teams to both boys and girls,” Marx said about the upcoming tryouts.
The tryouts are open to boys in grades 5th-9th and girls in grades 6th-8th. They are free to attend, and players who make the team for the Fall 2024 season will automatically secure a spot for the following Spring/Summer 2025 season.
